Ink on Bruny

Sitting on top of a high dune on Bruny Island with the wind blowing sand into every stitch in my beanie I managed to do a rough ink drawing of the shrubbery meeting the sand of the next dune slope. There is something really great about working out in the field and experiencing all that the elements can throw at you. My ink had dried to a sludge in the bottom of the bottle, but that was fine, the wind was cold, but that was fine, the sand imbedded itself in the ink and stung my face, but that was fine too. So while the result may not be a beautiful ink drawing, it does have within it the struggle of the moment.

I used Jay Dee’s pencil dipped in ink method for some of the drawing, and grass tips for other parts as well as a brush.  It is the tactile surface that I love the most – all bumpy from the sand!

Oh Linden, this is such a great drawing – it truly feels windswept! So glad to see you tried the drawing technique too, wonderful!
