Ocean power

The ocean was showing how powerful it can be at Eaglehawk Neck on the weekend. This slender strip of dune is called a neck for good reason – but it is amazing that despite the worldwide recognition of the climatic changes that are occurring there is a recent subdivision of land at about the lowest point on this sand strip – outstanding! I guess there are people who have more money than they need so buying land and building in such locations of peril is of no concern in the short term, and a financial right off in the future. But what is the councils excuse?

The ocean sends little reminders of its power on a regular basis, in the form of kelp ripped out and dumped unceremoniously onto the sandy shore and washes in the body of a fallen seabird, rearranging it in patterns that defy its physically recognisable form.
Are we listening?
