blue light on chains

There is a new sound based festival on in Hobart at the moment. It is being played out in a number of locations, an today I managed to get down to Salamanca Arts Centre to have a peek. The Long Gallery has been divided by a wall and chained doorway to keep the wonderful performing birds doing there thing on the electric guitar strings, but you can get a better look at what they are doing on the Mona Foma website.

There are a number of sound based works that you can listen to through headphones in a beautiful blue light area. There were quite a few people there at the time I was there, so it will be another venture to out take the time to listen as the ambiance of such an installation is quite important I think.

ausglass

At the Carnegie Gallery there is an exhibition of glass work by Australian contemporary artists. The exhibition continues until 18th of January which is also the final day for the Ausglass conference.

Also there is an exhibition of work by Chen Ping in the Salamanca Arts Centre, upstairs in the residents gallery. Chen is a powerful abstract artist who has just had a successful trip to China to show his work. He has his own website which shows his latest works.

Also upstairs is work by Italian cartoonist Davide Toffolo.

The Top Gallery is hosting a range of his work from several years and is very interesting t browse. The images easily take you through a range of emotions as the characters develop. In keeping with the music theme he is also a member of a rock band.
