ferntree printmakers

It is the last few days for an exhibition of work by members of the Fern Tree Printmakers. Fern Tree nestles into the foothills of Mount Wellington and is a lush and rich forest of Tasmanian trees and shrubs, along with the houses hidden from sight and surrounded by deep gardens. I’m not sure where they are based exactly, but needless to say it has been a strongly bonded group of printmakers who have developed a dedicated following for their work over the years.

Above is a group of drypoint prints by Rosalind Burgess which are a true and powerful group of works that depict the landscape near Queenstown on the West Coast of Tasmania. The exhibition is actually centred around a trip to Queenstown and each artist has responded to the environment in their own way. The show includes works that are quite contemporary to more traditional print, but without doubt the standard is what makes it all sing and pull together beautifully.

Susan Pickering, Bette Roberts, Lolo Burrows, Jenny Burnett, Rosalind Burgess, Veronica Steane and one screenprint by Raymond Arnold make up the group show. Open until the 28th at the Rosny Schoolhouse Gallery, not to be missed if your in the area!
