Back to the grind stone
my art, prints :: posted on July 22nd, 2008

Yet another crit is coming up so I am trying to complete two series for ’show and tell’. I doubt that I will achieve my goal but at least I will have a few more prints to add to the ones I have already done. The good thing about goals is that it pushes you, I guess. This is about the sixth print in a series of nine and there will be a number of series – yet to be decided. I have three on the go – one completed, I think.
Technically I am aiming to bring together etching and lithograph in one print, which can be tricky at times. They seem to fight for dominance and it can be a surprise as to which method wins! So this print has a lithograph layer that is printed with ink I made using found red ochre, then a collograph layer also with an ochre ink, then two etching layers using a single plate but printed twice with different colours. It is a bit hard to see here, but the double layer gives more depth to the etching and also has a slight ’shudder’ by off setting the layers. Not too much though or it makes you dizzy!
It is nice to be working on a desert image.
