Alice Springs 5

The Aboriginal people of Central Australia have developed a huge international reputation for their art. It is quite an awesome experience to see the traditional paintings on the rock faces in significant places. The art at Emily Gorge is well visited and protected by a fence to prevent people getting too close, but it still has an awesome impact.

The three caterpillars story talks about the creation and significance of the range that runs into Alice Springs. The larger paintings are quite big, nearly human height by memory.Of course the colours are the ochres found in the region, the red and white.
I did find some more rock art, and maybe some petroglyphs.

Hopefully my next journey to the centre will take in some more fabulous rock art sites!

Yes it is wonderful to have had the opportunity. It would be so good to do a bit more exploration and research now that I have had just a little taste!
