Registration

pinhole registration

Registering a print can be quick tricky when you can’t see the image very well, and this is a problem with lithography. The stone is often smaller than the paper, so lining up the image to go exactly where you want it on the sheet of paper requires a couple of pins.

The pins are pushed through from the back at specific points that can be easily identified on the lithograph. I usually use two pins so that the print has the best chance of being lined up just right!

pulling the print

Pulling the print from the stone is always a moment of excitment and anticipation of what might have gone wrong - like the registration! Luckily this time all was ok. The small pinholes are pushed closed during the printing process under the huge pressure of the press.
