There was an opening on the Tasman Peninsula this weekend. The community centre in Nubenna has been a long and suffering project that has taken a huge amount of time and effort to see the completion of the project with gradual funding raising and dedication to the idea. Essentially it was about providing a space that will bring the Peninsula cimmunity together for events such as the current Art and Craft Exhibition and sports.

This year a new part to the art side of things was introduced with the inaugrual Aged Portrait Prize. This sort of competition builds strength as it evolves, and I can see that this one will definately find its feet quickly. The portraits ranged in experience, size and medium and provided plenty of food for thought about how important elderly people are to a community.

Abi and I put entries in. Poor Miche sat through a sitting for us, and then we had almost a comedy of errors as we lost touch with the details that are so very important, like the due date! Abi worked away on her pastel crayon drawing, and really captured something about her personality.

I had intended to work on a painting for the competition, but alas it was the day before it was due when I discovered that I had run out of time! So I had to work on my initial pencil drawing and try to make something of it - not exactly a charming drawing of Miche - sorry mum! I’ll do better next year - promise!
